Before even setting foot inside you're hit by the pounding bass. Going further inside and you're enveloped by low House thumping. The walls are blank, the tables are bare, the seating is bland, but there is one visual element that screams at you: the baristas are standing in the middle of the room with their work surface pushed up against the wall. It's easy to dismiss this as a gimmick, but there's definitely a different feeling that's created by this setup. It's almost unnerving to not have that counter separation. To just have them loosely jostling about while you walk straight through their work space. I suppose being against the division of customer and barista makes them counter-counter-culture, which is definitely in keeping with the cafe's overall theme of 'whatever you're doing, I'm going to do the opposite'. Apart from this entertainment piece, the cafe is as stripped back and minimal as can be. In some ways it's refreshing. It's just you and your laptop, just you and your coffee. No colourful wall hangings or quirky quotes, just bare metal, white paint and your hands in front of your face.
