A little tricky to find as it's through a little archway towards a parking lot and then up some fire escape stairs, and not very clearly signposted though the sign is there if you hunt around. But there are at least advantages to being so tucked away. Being such a highly rated cafe, it would at least keep the numbers down a little so that the cafe remains an enjoyable experience (see: \[\[烈烈庆祝\]\]).
It feels a little awkward first walking in as it's a very small space and there appear to only be a few tables. The situation improves somewhat as you move through the back of this kind of enclosed patio to find a more comfortable space. Here the interior from floor to ceiling has a beautiful dark wooden finish that makes the space feel a little gloomy yet elegant and welcoming. We were standing around wondering if we would get a table since the place was completely full, but we were luckily offered a seat by someone who was willing to give way to the newcomers. Ordering is done by QR code at the table and service is efficient. The cheesecake was absolutely delicious and the coffee was made to a really high standard, even when crafted with dairy alternatives.
Looking around it would be easy to imagine customers having conversations about politics, literature and the meaning of life. It feels like a place designed to support the savvy students and intellectuals, especially those with a bit more money to burn. You will easily spend 70元 on a drink and something to eat which is not unusual for a cafe in Kunming, but the pricing puts it firmly in the upmarket category.
